Ho Chi Minh City nightlife at a glance
Ho Chi Minh City nightlife is concentrated in the centre. The main address is Bui Vien (Bùi Viện), a walking street in the Pham Ngu Lao (Phạm Ngũ Lão) area that fills up in the evening. Elsewhere the city offers lit streets, evening views from tall buildings and late meals.
This page keeps to practical points: when the street is closed to traffic, what the evening options are, and how to avoid the common problems. Pham Ngu Lao is also a popular area to sleep, so read the where to stay page if you want to be near the street, or away from it. For a first evening that starts with food, a Ho Chi Minh City food tour is an easy way in.

The Bui Vien walking street
Hours, crowds and what to expect.
When it is a walking street
The walking street runs from Friday to Sunday, 19:00 to 02:00. Do not assume the whole area is closed to traffic all day or that every side street is covered. On other days, expect traffic as usual.
What the street is like
It is loud, crowded and lit, with bars and food on both sides. Visit once to see it, and decide on the spot how long you want to stay. You do not need to pick a venue in advance.
Drinks and prices
Prices, dress rules and opening times differ by venue. Check them on the day, and read the menu before you sit down.
Getting home
Decide before you go out how you will return. Use an app car or a taxi with a meter, and check the pickup spot on the screen.
Things to do in Ho Chi Minh City at night
Options beyond the walking street.
Evening views from a tower
Two towers have observation decks. The Landmark 81 SkyView covers floors 79 to 81, and the Bitexco Skydeck is on floor 49. Closing times run from about 21:30 at the Skydeck to 22:00 or 23:00 at SkyView and they change, so confirm them before you go. The view depends on the weather and the haze.
A walk in the lit centre
The centre around Nguyễn Huệ, the opera house and the post office is easy to cross on foot. Check at the place whether a street is open to traffic on your evening.
A late meal
Food is the easiest way to see the city in the evening. Rice with grilled pork, noodle soups and bánh mì are common dishes, and the food tour page explains how to order them.

Safety on the street at night
Calm, practical points.
Bags and phones
Petty theft and bag snatching from motorbikes occur in busy tourist areas. Carry your bag on the side away from the road, and keep your phone in a pocket when you walk near traffic. If someone grabs your bag, do not risk injury by holding on.
Nitrous oxide balloons
Sellers of nitrous oxide balloons have been convicted in the city, and a business ban on nitrous oxide for inhalation applies from 1 January 2027. Do not treat it as a legal pastime and do not buy it.
Water and ice
The usual health advice is to drink boiled water or sealed bottles, skip ice when you are unsure of its source, and avoid raw or undercooked food.
Around Tết
Petty theft rises during the Tết holiday. Tết 2027 begins on 6 February 2027. See the weather page for more on the dates.
Crossing the street
Do not rely on other drivers to stop for you. Cross at a steady pace, in a straight line, and wait for a clear gap.
